Write between a rock and a hard place,
on the back of a candy wrapper at the
drugstore buying sleep medication,
at the movie theater in the din of the
film’s flashing sequences.
Write in the soft fabric of the bench
seats in a taxi,
write a note in the sand at the beach
or scrawl letters in…

She was beautiful before
Gunpowder marked her hands
From shots fired to her brain
Never hitting, but nearly.

She was beautiful before
The bomb of infertility dropped
From shaking hands of doctors
And a nuclear mother.

She was beautiful before
Dizziness and pretty things
Made her knees weak and snap
As nothing stopped him.

She was beautiful before
Ink contaminated snow
Turning the purity into blood-red
Regrets and unchangeable woes.

Sometimes you can’t see change but you feel it, you still feel locked in the box, but that’s just a feeling, holding your breath for clean air, gotta inhale, to see how that fresh air smell, hoping for validation, it comes at its own pace, and falls into place, not when you wanted, but when it was meant to be said, or acknowledged, suffocate the problems, starve them from your desires, your hopes, things that inspire, expire the liars, ghosts on earth, while yall hover, I toast, to the good times, blindly designed, aint plan, just had a purpose, wanted to voice it, remotely or in person, haters nay say, got a pocket knife to slay, big guns is for wall blasting, disseminate disasters, you’re, a minor factor, reminiscing on my travels, path gravel, layin black top, yeah the shits hot, so is the kitchen, what’s the matter? Divide the movement from the moment, I get caught up, I know I shouldn’t, whether the weather is sunny or kinda grey, face up u gotta stay, face down, only when u pray.  -Drea Heard

The process of change, from a caterpillar to butterfly, beautiful, the caterpillar forms a cocoon, nature takes it’s course, a beautiful being, ooh look, it’s first wing, fascinating, you fixate on the unveiling, knowing that the colors are unpredictable, staring in wonder, as the butterfly breaks out, beauty in full view, you smile as it dances around playfully, flying low and high, you are captivated, could the butterfly be communicating with you, just then it hovers closer and finally lands on the tip of your nose, usually your weary of bugs, but this insect has turned into pure beauty, giggle at the tickle, you smile wide, and so does the butterfly, revealing it’s teeth as it bites you on the nose for fucking with it as a caterpillar… lesson learned? - Drea Heard
